KYSA Baseball Program Overview: Age Levels, Evaluations, Team Placement Process

Thank you for participating in KYSA Baseball! As you know, we operate the largest baseball program in Keizer! We offer Recreational Leagues for player ages 5 - 12 and we offer J.B.O Leagues for player ages 9 - 14.

TBall league age is the player's age on 4/1. All other Baseball league ages are the player's age on 7/31.

KYSA league ages by level are "recommended" but we can be flexible based on player needs. Our goal is to have similar skill levels together to promote player development.

JBO league ages are as follows: 10U, 12U, 14U (player's age on 7/31).

Ages 5-6: KYSA TBall

Ages 7-8: KYSA AA (Coach Pitch)

Ages 9-10 (10U) and 11-12 (12U) will play either KYSA or JBO. During the Registration process, you will need to determine if you want your child to be evaluated for a JBO team or a KYSA team. A detailed description of JBO and KYSA is below. We use paid Umpires, so Umpire Fees will be similar to last year. See Umpires tab for estimates by level. Fees will also be discussed during Team Meeting Night and collected prior to first games.

JBO games are May – mid July. About 1/2 the games are played at the KYSA complex and 1/2 the games are traveling throughout the Valley. JBO also plays in weekend tournaments (# of tournaments TBD, but estimates are listed below).

We expect to have approx. 4 JBO teams for each age level: 10U, 12U, 14U. The number of Federal, American and National teams will be determined based on evaluation scores at each level. Federal is for players with the highest skill level, American is for intermediate skill levels, and National is for recreational skill levels. Note: we may not have a Federal team at every age level. This will be determined as part of the evaluations process.

If your child chooses to be evaluated for a JBO team, we will make every effort to place him on a JBO team (Federal, American or National level), however we will have a maximum of 12 players per JBO team. If a child does not make a JBO team he will be entered into the draft for the KYSA league for AAA or Majors.

KYSA games are April – early June (season ends around the same time as school is out). All KYSA games will be played at the KYSA complex, as in past years. We will have KYSA teams for Majors ages 11-12, AAA ages 9-10, AA Coach Pitch ages 7-8 and TBall ages 5-6. Age brackets are designed to improve player development by keeping like ages/skill levels together. For example, this enables 9-10 year olds to gain the experience they need to develop their pitching/catching/infield skills without having older kids competing in this same age group.

We anticipate having 6 KYSA teams for AAA & 6 KYSA teams for Majors, with approx. 16-game season. We anticipate having 10 KYSA teams for AA Coach Pitch & 10 KYSA teams for TBall, with approx. 16-game season.

Evaluations / Team Placement Process

All baseball players age 9 - 14 will be evaluated in February and teams for both leagues (JBO and KYSA) will be formed by 3/1.

JBO team selections for Federal, American, National levels will be based on evaluations scores.

KYSA teams will be chosen from a draft (after evaluations) as in past years.

Our goal is to place all players at a level where they can excel…at a level with players of similar ages, skill levels and levels of emotional maturity. Our decisions are intended to improve the overall growth and success of our players and we strive to deliver the best experience for our Keizeryouth at all ages and levels.

All players will be placed on a team (JBO or KYSA). Please keep in mind that there will be no refunds after evaluations.

Age 5-6

KYSA TBall Season: April- Early June
