Baseball Program Overview, Evaluations and Team Placement Process
Posted Dec 28, 2011

Thank you for participating in MYB Baseball!  As you know, we operate the largest baseball program in Keizer!  We offer Recreational Leagues for player ages 5 – 12.  For those seeking a more competitive level of play we also have a strong presence in the Junior Baseball Organization and offer a competitive league baseball option for player grades 3rd through 8th.

T-Ball league age is the player's age on 4/1.

MYB recreational league ages are "recommended" but we are flexible based on player needs.  Our goal is to have similar skill levels together to promote player development.

JBO league ages are now based on grade level:  Midgets 3rd-4th, Juniors 5th-6th, and Seniors 7th-8th.

Ages 5-6:  MYB Recreational T-Ball

Ages 7-8:  MYB Recreational AA (Coach Pitch)

Grades: 3rd-4th (Midgets) will play on a JBO team of appropriate skill level.  Starting at this age/grade level players will be evaluated for proper placement on a JBO team.  A detailed description of JBO skill levels is below.

Grades: 5th-6th grade (Juniors) and 7th-8th grade (Seniors) will play JBO and placed at a level matching skill and experience.

JBO levels:  Federal = highly competitive, American = very competitive, National = level similar to rec. with a bit more competitiveness.  All JBO games have paid Umpires.

JBO overview:  League games are on weeknights May – June, but can extend into early July for makeup games.  League standings are tracked with post season births on the line for the top teams in each league.  Teams qualifying for post season play will play into mid July.  About 1/2 the games are played in Keizer the other half will be in neighboring areas like; W. Salem, S. Salem, Mt. Angel, Dallas, and Albany.

JBO teams/coaches can also choose to play in weekend invitational tournaments.  Tournaments are entirely up to each individual team’s discretion.  Tournament games do not count towards league standings, but are an excellent venue for players to blossom by playing lots of innings over a short period of time and allows for kids to pitch who may not be ready for league game pitching duties.

JBO has very strong rules in place regarding player safety including strict pitch count limits to ensure pitchers will not be overworked in any given game or week.

We expect to have approx. 3 JBO teams for each age level: Midget, Junior, and Senior. The number of Federal, American and National teams will be determined based on evaluation scores at each level.  Federal is for players with the highest skill, experience, and commitment level, American is for intermediate skill levels, and National is for recreational skill levels.

At the JBO level we make every effort to place all players who register on a JBO team matching their skill, experience, commitment level, however in rare cases we have an odd number of players.  In these instances first come first serve will apply.  For example if we have 3 teams at the maximum 13 player rosters (39 total), and have 45 players sign up, then the last 6 player to sign up would be put on a waiting list.  We would either need to find more players to make a 4th team, or wait and see if spots opened up on existing teams.

MYB Recreational league games are April – early June (season ends around the same time as school is out).  All MYB rec. games will be played in Keizer, as in past years.  We will have MYB teams for AA Coach Pitch ages 7-8 and T-Ball ages 5-6.  Age brackets are designed to improve player development by keeping like ages/skill levels together.  For example, this enables 9-10 year olds to gain the experience they need to develop their pitching/catching/infield skills without having older kids competing in this same age group.

We anticipate 10 MYB teams for AA Coach Pitch & 10 MYB teams for T-Ball, with approx. 16-game season.

Evaluations / Team Placement Process

Starting with 3rd graders and above, for 2018 season all players will be evaluated February 16-18, at McNary H.S. for team placement.  All players will make a team with rare exception as detailed above.

JBO team selections for; Federal, American, and National levels will be based primarily on evaluations scores.

MYB Rec. teams will be chosen from a draft (after evaluations) as in past years.

Our goal is to place all players at a level where they can excel…at a level with players of similar ages, skill, and emotional maturity level.    Our decisions are intended to improve the overall growth and success of our players and we strive to deliver the best experience for our players and families as possible.

Please keep in mind that there will be no refunds after evaluations.
